“New Horizons Partnership is a charitable organisation who provides training and supported employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
Based in Strabane in N.Ireland, the “New Horizons garden centre” and “The Old Schoolhouse” café” provide an environment whereby trainees learn valuable employment skills in a real life setting.
Our curriculum development team has created fully accredited learning resources for people with learning disabilities.
Our Independent Travel Training Programme, managed by our training officer Gerry McWilliams, is currently being used by over 200 trainers throughout the UK to train their students in safe, independent travel. A “Training for Trainers” programme held in host organizations throughout the UK provides the skills necessary to run an Independent Travel Training Programme using New Horizons accredited resources.
Both the trainer and the student are fully accredited by the Open College Network and organizations such as Mencap and Connexions have participated in the training and are now successfully running the programme with heir students.
Workability is a new project due for completion in 2007. A CD-ROM based training package incorporating 12 discs, Workability is an excellent resource which will teach student essential skills needed to gain and maintain employment.
