 The Good Pelican Crossing Guide

Every good Pelican Crossing has a button like this you can press. The WAIT sign lights up when you press the button. Its no good pressing it again. The crossing won't work any faster!

Every good Pelican Crossing has clear lines on the road to tell the cars where to stop.

Every good Pelican Crossing has a red light to stop the traffic so you can cross the road. You know when the red light comes on because the Green Man comes on at the same time.

Every good Pelican Crossing should make a beeping noise when the Green Man comes on.

Every good Pelican Crossing has a Red Man to tell you not to cross the road just yet. This is because the traffic light is on green and the traffic can still move.

Some people don't take any notice and they go across when the Red Man is on. You don't do that though, because it's dangerous.

Every good Pelican Crossing has a thing underneath that twiddles about when the Green Man comes on. This is for people who can't see the Green Man and can't hear the beeps.

When the orange light starts to flash, the Green Man starts to flash at the same time. I want you to find out why it does this. This is very important!

This is what a good Pelican Crossing is like. Is the Pelican Crossing near you a good one?
